Obituary for Cynthia Louise Jewczyn

Cynthia Louise (Lanphere) Jewczyn passed away on September 3, 2019 and stepped into her alto spot in Heaven’s choir. Her 63 years of life revealed her to be a woman of contagious kindness and overflowing love. She was a woman who knew no stranger and shared what she received with all who came to her home: cats, dogs, or people alike. As a child, Cindy grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with her parents, Herb and Doris, and her siblings Kathy and Earl.

Cindy managed to grow and bloom wherever she was planted, with however little water or soil she was given. Her roots grew deep in her Christian faith, and this faithfulness was passed on to her children and friends, and will be a gift to many generations.

Much to their chagrin, she also passed on her love of corny jokes and general silliness to her children and grandchildren. Her positive wit and humor enabled her to face any adversity with grace and a smile. She was an optimist of optimists, without complaint and with joy in all things. Even in her deepest struggles against breast cancer, she managed to befriend every nurse, doctor, and visitor with her wit, charm, and compassion.

Cindy loved to cook, more for the joy of seeing others enjoy it than her own pleasure at eating it. Her spaghetti sauce, birthday cakes, and apple crisp were legendary, but her true culinary love was Mexican food. She ate countless tamales, bathed her plate in bowls of salsa, and believed cilantro could cure anything.

She cherished the worshipful atmosphere of singing with church choirs and her alto spot was always filled with harmony and rejoicing. She was particularly joyous when her choir in San Diego would open their ocean-facing windows, and she believed the waves crashing on the beach was God joining with them in song.

Cindy gave life, love, and friendship to everyone she met, until her last day. Now, she is face-to-face with Her Father and is praising, singing, and tap dancing in Heaven. No doubt she’ll fit right in to the joy that awaited her there.

She is survived by her two children: Chris and his wife Laura and their children Roar, Lucy, and Tad; Alysa and her husband Zack and their children Ella and Finnley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Doris Lanphere, and a brother Rusty Lanphere.

Cindy will be remembered as a wonderful mother, loyal friend to all, and faithful follower of Jesus. A memorial service will be held at 6:30PM on Friday September 6th at Red Door Church, 1140 Smiley Ave., Cincinnati, OH. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Pink Ribbon Girls to provide support for other women facing breast cancer.
